ROFL!
Progressive Eco-socialists believe that their ventures should not only be free of taxes, but actually subsidized by government. Governments at all levels are broke and looking for new things to tax. Guess what "Greenies", they're coming for you!

of course solar farms take over land for any other use. A 200 acre farm replaced by solar panels in Davidson last year. A fee is in order

Solar is junk unless you're off the grid. Then it's just inefficient, unreliable and expensive.
"When government does, occasionally, work, it works in an elitist fashion. That is, government is most easily manipulated by people who have money and power already. This is why government benefits usually go to people who don't need benefits from government. Government may make some environmental improvements, but these will be improvements for rich bird-watchers. And no one in government will remember that when poor people go bird-watching they do it at Kentucky Fried Chicken." - PJ O'Rourke

Ok. I see the need from the state to generate revenue from the land use, but not sure how solar can have a negative impact on the environment.

Wow Riverside County is actually making a stand against solar power. “With or without additional taxes or fees, solar is wildly uneconomic,” Simmons explained. “Photovoltaic solar is nearly 5 times more expensive than new natural gas electricity generation, and thermal solar is nearly 10 times more expensive than natural gas. Those higher prices are passed down to consumers directly through higher power bills and indirectly through higher priced goods and services.”
“Consumers lose when solar power projects go online,” said Simmons.

Riverside is losing potential tax revenues from companies or residences that could be located on the same land the solar farms are located on so they impose a fee to the solar company. Not sure I agree with that one...

Sounds like it is Riverside Country's way of making up for some of the revenue they have lost since the recession.

"Supervisors have pointed out solar power projects have negative environmental consequences that may need to be addressed, and that developing land for solar power means precluding other potential uses of the land."

guess they haven't heard of the new export terminals being planned for Louisiana meant to export all that low priced Natural Gas out of our country. Once that plan is effective the price of solar may be more reasonable.

I think Riverside is looking out for their citizens.
In the article it says:
“With or without additional taxes or fees, solar is wildly uneconomic,” Simmons explained. “Photovoltaic solar is nearly 5 times more expensive than new natural gas electricity generation, and thermal solar is nearly 10 times more expensive than natural gas. Those higher prices are passed down to consumers directly through higher power bills and indirectly through higher priced goods and services."
This company is wanting special treatment. And for the people on this site. If you guys want alternatives, kiss my butt or you can pay my outrageous power bill.

Our nation needs to develop alternative renewable sources of energy. But it seems things just cannot get off the ground. I suspect there have been many pockets stuffed with cash to scuttle yet another project to reduce our reliance on Crude Oil as the primary source to power our vehicles and industry.

The beast part is in a state that has mandated 33% renewable energy by 2020 to help the environment, now has individual counties take it a pone themselves to add a “Fee” to the high cost of renewable energy under the guise of environmental concern.

What's next? Wind fee, geothermal fee, CNG fee, nuclear fee, coal fee, etc.

the gov'ment has to be able to line their pockets from someone elses pockets.this is the only way they know to steal their pay raises every year. : ) how else do you expect them to vote themselves a pay raise every year with benefits.they keep looking for the fast buck and don't seem to care how it effects the economy in the long run. i guess they figure if they don't implement the tax now they won't have a leg to stand on in future to claim taxes on all alternative energy sources. and round and round it goes.
